Creative renovation & transformation scheme of a dwelling in one of the most desired countryside areas of Rostrevor. For private, professional Clients.

The existing house and its adjacent garage/workshop have been carefully & sustainably remodelled to take advantage of the outstanding views and raised topography of the site and to sustain mature landscaping that offers exceptional privacy 

while respecting relevant policies, particularly the strict requirements of the AONB (Area of Outstanding Beauty). 

 

To facilitate the Clients brief, we've introduced a series of solutions and improvements. The existing house has been transformed into the main living volume with guest accommodation linked by a glazed structure. Thanks to some imaginative design manoeuvres the spaces are better utilised without the need of building large extensions, as commonly assumed. There is a glazed double-height bay addition to the dining area and only a small extension to the study/master bedroom side. 

 

Spaces are ergonomically interlinked and have been rearranged to embrace the spectacular views. Internally there is an open plan living space with the first floor valued ceilings bringing an unexpected spaciousness to the interior. The fluid interior has been designed to evoke luxury, volume and accommodate a study with a library, the zone that has been particularly required by the Client. The elevations have been transformed, particularly the facade to give the sense of arrival and luxury. The first floor has been designed to allow for a series of voids (double-height spaces). Carefully positioned windows allow light to drench the contemporary interior, enhancing its rudimentary connection to nature. The relationship of the house to its breathtaking landscape and the views of the Rostrevor village and Carlingford Lough have been maximised.

We applied our typical approach working with existing buildings and have reused as much of the existing structure of the building as possible. The stand out feature of this scheme is its metamorphosis.
